As we’ve said before, our bodies need different things on different days.
This isn’t just something we say to make ourselves feel better about shifting energy levels, there is actually science behind it!
The reason our bodies have different needs depending on the day is because our systems are dependent on both internal and external forces that have a tendency to shift. That means, on a daily basis, our bodies have the tendency to change.
How, you ask? Well, let’s explore!
Our Weight - As we know, weight tells you truly nothing about yourself, your health status, or your worth. That’s why we encourage throwing scales OUT THE WINDOW (or, you know, getting rid of them in a safer manner.) However, did you also know that your weight changes on a daily basis? It is normal for our weight to fluctuate at least 5-6 pounds on a daily basis because of things like water retention, hormones, cortisol levels, and more. So, that scale you’re holding onto? SMASH IT TO PIECES!
Our Energy - Energy fluctuations happen from day to day, and throughout the day, and are dependent on SO many things. Not getting enough sleep? Your energy will be lower. Hormones fluctuating? You’ll experience energy changes. Didn’t eat enough the day before? Chances are, you’re going to feel a bit sluggish. Your level of energy should be an important factor in dictating your level of activity throughout the day. That’s why we stress that working out the same way you did even the week before may not be a great idea, depending on your energy levels on a specific day. Listening to your bod is so important!
Our Intake - If you’ve made a habit of honoring your hunger levels (highly recommend), you may notice that some days you’re more hungry than others. Spoiler alert: this is normal! Your body needs nourishment for energy, not only for physical activity, but also for mental activity, emotional activity, and the stuff our bodies do that we don’t even THINK about (keeping our organs working, replacing cells, etc.) You may feel more or less hunger depending on the day because on some days your body is doing a little extra. So, nourish yourself!
Our Stress Levels - Do you notice that you feel more able to handle stress (mentally, emotionally, and/or physically) at different parts of the day? Generally, our ability to handle stress is higher in the morning due to hormone levels. This is, of course, highly subjective per person, depending on energy levels and more.
All in all, listening to your body is always the BEST way to figure out what it needs on a day to day basis. So, try it out!
